Blue River Valley has grown leaps and bounds this season and it clearly showed on the mat on Saturday at the Sectional Tournament. Blue River’s season isn’t over yet due to the 4th place finish by Kyle Rice. Rice(145) started the day off with a hard fought victory against Moore from Richmond. Rice then fell to Cambridge City Lincoln’s Miles before winning against Harding from Tri High. Rice lost in his final match of the day in overtime against Tinkle from Centerville. Rice finished 4th on the day and will be moving on to Regionals. Joshua Molina(160) competed well in his two matches of the day. Molina wrestled hard but lost to Newby of Knightstown and Wright of Tri High. Molina had his best season in his wrestling career this year, setting a career high in pins and wins. Molina, senior next year, will look to finish his career with another personal best season. Bill Love(152) competed well on the day despite a rib injury but ultimately fell to Payne of Cambridge City Lincoln and Steele of Tri High. Love, a freshman and newcomer to the sport, showed a lot heart and had a great season. Sophi Alexander(132) had one of the toughest weight classes on the day but that didn’t stop her from having her best matches of the season. Alexander lost to Brown of Cambridge City Lincoln and Cornes of Tri High. Alexander was limited this season but is expected to hit her peak next season. Kyle Rice is set to travel to Richmond High School on Saturday February 2nd to compete in Regionals. Wrestling starts at 930am. Come out and show your support.
